Engineering culture.
A short document describing what it is like to work at Reactit, and what we expect of each other. Written by the engineers, refreshed quarterly.
What we believe, in writing.
Reactit is a small firm of engineers. We do not have product managers, project managers, or business analysts. Senior engineers own the work end-to-end, including the customer conversation.
We prefer the unfashionable choice when it lasts longer. Most of our work is to make institutions calmer, quieter, and harder to break — not louder, faster, or more impressive in a demo.
We open-source what we learn. We write postmortems our clients can read. We hold each other to the standard of an engineer who would still be supporting the code two years later — because we usually are.
Six rules, on the wall.
Write it down
If it isn’t in the repository or the runbook, it didn’t happen.
Boring is a feature
Surprise belongs in demos, not in production.
Own the outcome
Including the customer conversation, the on-call, and the postmortem.
Disagree in writing
Loud meetings are a smell. Decisions are made on paper.
Ship to learn
Production teaches you what staging never will.
Default open
Repos, postmortems, and decisions — visible to the team, by default.
